We have a new family member

We have a new family member

Named after the American actor, Montgomery Clift,

Monty

is a mix between Maltese and Coton de tolear.

We did, what a lot of people have done these past months, get a dog – a puppy.

We have been talking about it, or rather I have talked about it the last maybe 3 years my husband says, but just talked.

One reason we didn’t buy one earlier was that we had a cat in the family, Maja – the queen of the house.

And she was not at all interested in anyone outside the family. At all. She ruled.

We loved her dearly, and there was no room for anyone else. Sadly she passed away around Christmas time last year.

– With her gone and dearly missed and the new situation of the world, like a lot of others, the dog issue raised on the agenda.

With a little help from our daughter, who has a dog of her own, the dog market was scrutinized, and a lovely dog was found.

Not too easy these days, since the rest of the world seems to have the same idea. We all want to focus on love and cuddle ourselves out if this mess!

And so we got Monty as a new member of the family. We are enjoying a totally new way of living since our children are all grown up.

Now it’s all cuddling in the morning, fast out to pee in the garden, breakfast with only food for puppy’s, cuddle again and out again before hitting the office.

We made the mistake of giving him tiny bits of our food at the beginning and got to learn from other dog lovers that it’s not a good idea if you want the best for your dog.

Let them eat their food and stay healthy. Longer. So far we’re happy he sleeps all night through since he came, he doesn’t mind travelling a long time in the car.

He accepts us playing tennis without any significant problems. And we keep cuddling everyday-It still is just the beginning but we love him!

I’ve been in love with the Bjäre area for many years. It’s a lovely piece of Sweden with a hilly landscape and a fertile agricultural land. This is where the first potatoes and strawberries of the season in Sweden grow.

I used to love paper dolls as a girl

It started with the ones I got that my mother made when she was a girl. And she’s a really good cartoonist. Her paper dolls looked liked movie stars. And they have were dressed accordingly. So good looking! Then I got into the collecting period.I remember the winter holidays at my grandparents. Enjoying quiet afternoons in the sofa with magazines containing paper dolls to cut out. Mostly famous people like Abba members. The paper doll could be glued to a more solid paper for durability. Even mom was a paper doll in the sixties. Not as herself. I think she was a nurse.

6 reasons why I love the Cherry Blossom

6 reasons why I love the Cherry Blossom

Ulrika Bolinder at Kungsträdgården, Stockholm

Who doesn’t around the rose-scented breeze of spring that invigorates the senses and cleanses the mind free of all toxic thoughts and energies?

Cherry Blossom is indeed my most favourite time of the year; it is a time of rebirth and transformation.

As the trees and flower bushes welcome new leaves and petals, we humans can shed away all unhealthy habits and allow the roses of change to grow bold and vibrant.

It is a time of utter and devastating beauty.

Dinner Magenta

Allow me to share some of the reasons why I simply love the Cherry Blossom:

A Time of Rebirth

Spring is a splendid time of rebirth, and Mother Nature is busy beautifying the earth with new shades and themes. It’s a remarkable season for change and transformation. One could go in for a splendid makeover, a new wardrobe, or even a drastically bold hair colour transformation.

A feast for the Senses

The arrival of Cherry Blossoms is indeed a feast for the senses. This invigorating sensory experience is as rewarding for the eyes, as it is for the nose. There’s nothing more splendid than being surrounded by pastel and vibrant pink florals.

Love is in the Air

It most certainly is! Spring has a dramatic flair for romance, and it is the perfect time of the year to plan romantic outdoor dates and unforgettable springtime getaways.

Picnics & Parties

The Japanese tradition of Hanami advocates the celebration of beauty, and it literally means “blossom viewing”. Around the 9th century, Japanese aristocrats introduced the concepts of Hanami parties under beautiful cherry blossom trees. Over the years, this ritual evolved and spread throughout the world. I adore the Cherry Blossom season because it’s a splendid time for outdoor festivities, fun picnics and parties filled with entertainment.

The view from the Court in Hotel Positano was amazing !

Appreciating Nature

According to Japanese cultures, these pastel pink blossoms are known as ‘Sakura’, and they are symbolic of spring, the season of renewal. I firmly believe that these delicate blooms and their exquisite petals can teach us a great deal about the laws of nature, and the nature of life. Their short-lived existence allows us to appreciate beauty, and then watch it disappear forever.

A Love for All Things PINK

Pink is not just a colour, it is, in fact, a state of mind. I adore watching this romantic and dreamy colour appear everywhere on trees and gardens. Spring is indeed a celebration of the colour pink, and the new dusty pink Mini Jetset Bag is the ultimate accessory to amplify your blossomy glam.

Stay Elegant, folks!

My Relationship with Piero Fornasetti

My relationship with Piero Fornasetti (1913 - 1988) starts with the small bowls my parents used for candy as well as nuts and olives when we had guests. Ever since I’ve been drawn to his world of letters, architecture, the black and white and the humour

The Impressions from the Time of Axel Munthe

The impressions from the time of Axel Munthe

Axel Munthe statue at Via San Michele in Capri

The statue of Axel Munthe at Via San Michele in Capri

The Lion at Via San Michele

San Michele is the villa in Capri, built by the Swedish doctor and writer Axel Munthe, around 1890. Today you can visit the museum, have lunch and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. You can feel the timeless moment while walking in the garden.

With the wind breeze and distinct smell of roses and jasmin, your mind gets wrapped in calmness. Your thoughts can easy travel back in time when the doctor had his entourage gathered enyoing the same exposure to the wind, sun, heat and nyance of flowers.

To get myself into places like this strenghtens my appriciation for elegance. For love. For lust. For life.

In Sweden We have a proverb ”See Capri. Then Die.” It is so true.

The Elegance of Positano makes me fall in love.

The elegance of Positano makes me fall in love. Again.

My love for Italy started when I was 16 and went with interrail through Europe. Or that was the intention. The truth is that my friend and I took the train Stockholm-Paris and stayed a few days in Paris. Then we went to the French Riviera where we had high hopes of staying. I had never been there and was really looking forward to it. It rained. Bye-bye rain bye French Riviera. Hello Rimini and hello sun!

That’s when I fell in love with Italy, and the love remains. We stayed in Rimini for three weeks and had a lovely time!

Bucket

Enjoying the beautiful surroundings!

Sunshine

I fell in love with the Italians natural sense of appreciating beauty.

They value everything esthetic. Food, vine, cars, architecture, paintings, clothes and people. Love. Life.

Since then, I’m always going back to soak up some inspiration. The best thing to do is just to sit at a restaurant or a coffee shop and inhale the surroundings.

Let me give you my colours of Italy from – Positano.

The typical narrow allies

So Amazing Beautiful…

Positano and the Amalfi Coast are breathtaking with their dramatically steep cliffs combined with Italian charm.

Clashes between rugged post-war and present-day winding roads where wasps, older gentlemen of old, but stylishly matching Fiat cars and packed tourist buses still seem to have a place. I am and have been since my teens, in love with Italy.

Positano Bites Deep

Quoted by Steinbeck in magazine Harpers Bazaar from 1953.

“It is a dream place that isn’t quite real when you are there and becomes beckoningly real after you have gone. Its houses climb a hill so steep it would be a cliff except that stairs are cut in it… The small curving bay of unbelievably blue and green water lips gently on a beach of small pebbles.”

Most beautiful view from a tennis court ever!

The Elegance in Language Creates Elegance in life

The elegance in language creates an elegance in life

Ulrika Bolinder outside Hayes, Mansion, California

Elegance is a set of many things.

When you dress elegant and with style in the morning you have created a great foundation for a day in your elegant life. Style and beauty. Makeup and hair. You have a task list and have executed your morning routine and are ready for the day and the possibilities it has for you.

Ready to conquer the World! Yes: it’s my philosophy of a life surrounding my everyday elegance. But just as you can spill coffee on your new dress and the day can be interrupted with unexpected negative events. We can all work on what we can avoid creating negativity and energy drains.

Language is something that you can Control. Your language. Your language is a result of your thoughts. Your thoughts are based on your attitudes and values.

Language is so much more than just the number of Words.

So language is a result of many things. Language needs to be elegant in order for your life to be elegant. You are what you think. You do what you think and you act upon the set of values you have.

And when things don’t work as good as they could; the values can be adjusted. The values that are adjusted to the better leads to better routines, better outcomes and a better more elegant life. It is a winning spiral.

So the need for rebuilding better values (if they need to), reorganize the set of cultural inheritance that was a part of the system software that came from your upbringing.

Your language needs to be elegant. In order to live an elegant life. The first thing to clean like coffee stains on a dress is profanity. Profane words are basically only in order when you hit yourself on the thumb with a hammer. When you see famous actors being interviewed on television and they use swear words like a teenager I instantly react as they spilled coffee all over their clothes. It’s just a big NoNo.

Elegant language is an attitude toward your surroundings in society.

The elegance in style and in language is part of the same thing.

But elegant language is an attitude toward your surroundings in society. It’s being nice to people. To smooth the description and round your critique into words that will stand the test of time. Elegance in the language is about using fewer adjectives and polarized words. It’s about being diplomatic when you are angry and under stress. It’s about making it possible to solve the crisis by not burning unnecessary bridges. It’s about elegance in life. It’s about style. It is the core of you that Pour out of your mouth. Or in your writing. If you intend to live an elegant life; you need to use your language in an elegant way. And the path to so requires a guideline to the right path of thinking.

You see what you think. You think what you are. The road to elegance is filtered by your language.

The Clearness of Focus in the Game of tennis

Play tennis. You are never too old

For many years I watched my husband take the car Sunday evening for his weekly match in tennis at his local tennis club. No matter if he won or lost he arrived home with a smile on his face. Refreshed. In spirit and in mind.

When our oldest son grew up I followed his tennis career on the court from the sidelines. He played from the age of six and up, all around in Sweden and for a few years at college in the USA.

I didn´t play tennis as a child but I´ve watched the game on TV, on the family sideline, and on the ATP tournament live in Båstad every summer. As a passive part of a family with all members loving the sport.
We even have our own  old tennis court 10 meters from the kitchen window at our summerhouse in Båstad.

I always believed that tennis would be a sport for me but never took the time to practice. Until a few years ago. Suddenly the children are grown up and there is more time for me. For us.  The time came when the Project ”Upbringing children” had come to an end. Bird Nest Syndrome.

When that time comes in life I think you need to adjust your relationship and your life. I began to play tennis. For me and for us. Something we can do together. And we do! I got a tennis coach on a weekly base and then I play with my husband between two to four times a week. And more during summer. I love it! You can call me in the middle of the night and ask. Yes! It’s tough, difficult and so fun. The sheer joy of life. We take the rackets when we travel. We’ve played in the Maldives, high on the steep of Positano, in Harlem, NY and more. first time I met my tennis coach he asked what goals I have. To beat my husband in five years I said. Not there yet. But getting closer…

So I started a few years ago…

Around 50 years old. With a clear mission. I would beat my husband in five years.

The rules were simple. I would have a good trainer on my own. Teaching me the technics. And when I played with my husband We would never talk about technics. We would just play.

So I started my active Journey. And it was a refreshment I needed. The explosive game when everything has to come together in a fraction of a second to adjust the position, stans, swing, swing speed, bending, balance, forward-leaning, follow through and tactics by think of where to place the ball toon me by storm.

You can’t think of anything else when playing. It’s completely mind blowing. Its the focus of tennis that is the hidden secret of tennis. No matter occupied in during the Day with life, work. Love, children, fashion and elegance: When you play tennis your soul are in the focus of and elegance.

Because the more elegance you have ib the swing the better you play. As in golf:” if the swing looks good; it most likely is good”.

Play tennis. You are never too old. It just opens up magic moments.

And do it because of health reason too. A Danish study showed that tennis is a sport that prolongs life with 10 years. The sport that was Nr 1 in this field. Health reasons and also the social aspect plays a vital part in this study. Elegance is to live a long life.

Love- 40.
